Ventura Foods Salad Dressing Recall Affects Costco, Publix Stores

If you’re hosting, cooking or baking for the holidays, you might be sick of spending time in the kitchen. But before you head to your local grocery store and hit up the food court, deli or prepared food section to grab a quick bite, consider this: A Ventura Foods salad dressing recall has been issued, and the products listed alongside this warning may have been sold at your local Costco and Publix. Here, we break down this salad dressing recall and what stores and states were affected.

Ventura Foods salad dressing recall

Over 4,000 cases of dressing and sauces have been recalled by Ventura Foods after foreign material was said to have potentially made its way into several products. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the granulated onion used in some of the products contained black plastic planting material, ultimately leading to this contamination and recall. Though the initial alert was put out in early November, the FDA released an enforcement report a few days ago. The following products were affected by this recall:

  • Italian Salad Dressing, 1 gallon, SKU: 7 67367 00518 4
  • Creamy Poblano Avocado Ranch Dressing and Dip, 1 gallon, SKU: 7 34730 53243 1
  • Ventura Caesar Dressing, 2,000 pounds, SKU: 00 026700 17360 8
  • Pepper Mill Regal Caesar Dressing, 1 gallon, SKU: 0 93901 72607 0
  • Pepper Mill Creamy Caesar Dressing, 1 gallon, SKU: 0 93901 78134 5

  • Hidden Valley, Buttermilk Ranch, 1 gallon, SKU: 0 26700 19192 3

While these products were distributed to stores across the country and used in prepared food sold at food courts and delis, they were not sold on shelves for customers to purchase directly. Back in November, Costco issued an alert of their own, recalling a few products they sold that utilized the recalled caesar salad dressing. “Costco and Ventura foods are announcing the recall of select Sell By dates of Item# 19927 Caesar Salad and Item# 11444 Chicken Sandwich w/ Caesar Salad due to the possible presence of plastic foreign material in the salad dressing of the items,” read the announcement

What Ventura Foods has said about the recall

Ventura Foods, who first initiated this recall, spoke with Fox Business about the incident “On November 6, Ventura Foods initiated a sub-recall on a limited number of dressings containing onion granules after one of our suppliers voluntarily recalled one lot of the ingredient due to potential foreign material,” they told the publication. “Upon receiving notice of the supplier’s recall, we acted with urgency to remove all potentially impacted product from the marketplace. This includes urging our customers, their distributors and retailers to review their inventory, segregate and stop the further sale and distribution of any products subject to the recall.”
