In 2026, the United States of America will celebrate its 250th birthday—and President Donald Trump has quite a few ideas regarding how he plans to celebrate. Yesterday, in a video shared to the Freedom 250 YouTube account, Trump announced that his celebratory efforts would come in many forms, one of those being a youth athletic tournament known as the Patriot Games. Here, we break down everything there is to know about these Patriot Games, who is eligible to participate, when they’ll take place and more.
Trump’s 2026 plans to celebrate America’s birthday
President Trump’s plans for the USA’s 250th birthday celebrations are being spearheaded by a new organization known as Freedom 250. According to a press release, Freedom 250 is defined as a “national, non-partisan organization leading the Administration’s celebration of America’s 250th birthday. Fulfilling the President’s promise to deliver the most extraordinary commemoration in American history, Freedom 250 will coordinate with the Task Force, federal departments, and the Commission to deliver the defining presidential moments of this anniversary year.”
In the video shared to YouTube, Trump outlined a few of the initiatives he’s backing in celebration of the nation’s birthday on the Fourth of July next year. These include festive lights illuminating the Washington Monument and hosting the Great American State Fair on the National Mall “featuring pavilions from all 50 states, highlighting breathtaking innovations and celebrating America’s exceptional history and culture.” He went on to introduce perhaps the most intriguing aspect of the celebration known as the Patriot Games, which will highlight young athletes in the United States.

All about the Patriot Games
As Trump explained, the Patriot Games will be an “an unprecedented four-day athletic event featuring the greatest high school athletes, one young man and one young woman, from each state and territory.” Though not much else has been revealed about these games, Trump did share that they would take place in the fall of 2026, and the qualification currently laid out is that you must be in high school to participate. At this time, no further information is available regarding who is eligible, how to enter or how to qualify.

More celebrations in store for 2026
In addition to the Patriot Games, Trump outlined even more plans he has for 2026 in honor of the United States’ 250th birthday. We can expect to see the National Garden of American Heroes, a garden featuring sculptures of influential American figures, as well as the erection of a triumphal arc in Washington, D.C. President Trump also shared his plans to host a prayer event in the spring to “rededicate our country as ‘one nation under God.’” Lastly, on Flag Day, the White House will host a UFC event featuring the world’s most impressive fighters.
