Taiwan, SEA anchor US chip supply: Tariffs may do more harm than good

US President Donald Trump announced on April 14 a national security investigation into semiconductor imports. The US Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) followed with 14 points of inquiry, focusing on foreign subsidies, supply chain dependency, and domestic production bottlenecks. BIS aims to conclude the investigation after the public comment period closes on May 7.
