Providing Access to Archived Legacy Data While Saving Costs and Reducing Risk

Shawn Fichter, CEO and Head of Product at Legacy Data Access, believes that archived clinical, financial, and operational data represents an untapped resource for health systems. However, access to legacy data must be done in a way that doesn’t increase the risk of a breach. The balance between these needs – along with the financial and operational benefits of archiving legacy applications – is at the core of our discussion with Fichter at the AHIMA conference.

Fichter says that productive use of integrated data requires healthcare teams to look at data’s intended and future use. Data managers should evaluate use cases across the entire organization, consulting with diverse stakeholders: clinicians, researchers, grant administrators, and other key users. By exposing and connecting just the data each user needs, the organization can restrict the surface exposed to potential attackers.

Historically, data silos occur precisely because organizations implemented point solutions to suit individual needs. Now, healthcare organizations seek platform solutions, such as Legacy Data Access, which uses innovative approaches to make archived data accessible and manageable within GRC and resiliency models.

Watch this video from the AHIMA Annual Conference for additional insights into data siloing, data access challenges, and the value proposition of next-generation data archiving solutions.
