Happy New Year everyone! As we enjoy a little bit less time at work, I thought it would be great to start the new year with another edition of Fun Friday. In this case, it’s 1 part fun and 1 part disturbing. Not sure how many of you are familiar with Dr. Hope’s Sick Notes on YouTube. I didn’t until recently, but he has half a million subscribers on YouTube and has done really well reacting as a doctor to the various medical shows on TV, Film, and other media. It’s actually a really genius idea and so it’s no wonder he’s had success.
However, the reason I’m featuring him on Fun Friday is because he release a new parody music video called Dat Juicy Vein. It’s not very health IT, but it is hilarious for those of us in healthcare.
However, there is a health IT angle to this Fun Friday too. It’s just a reall scary thing that happend to this YouTube doctor with Google’s gen AI. Basically, the gen AI is confusing doctors and his show Sick Notes and saying a bunch of lies about him. Check out the video to learn all the disturbing details.
As he says in the video, it’s scary because there’s no doubt some people who are searching his name, patients, viewers of his channel, potential future employers, etc that are now getting really bad information that’s not even about him. And the thing that bothers me most about this is that he really doesn’t have much recourse. What can he really do about it? Ironically, maybe this video about the mistake may influence the algorithm so it stops sharing lies.
What do you think about this incident? Does it scare you?
Happy New Year! We’re in for a new adventure this year.
