News from Washington, DC
- The Office of No Christmas struck again, as ASTP/ONC released the HTI-5 proposed rule just before the holidays. The rule would remove 34 of 60 health IT certification criteria and revise an additional seven. The rule also proposed several revisions to information blocking exceptions.
- Meanwhile, HHS seeks input on how to accelerate AI adoption for clinical care. The agency will accept comments until February 23.
- The EHR Association issued a response to the Right to Override Act, introduced in October by Sen. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) to require a human override to AI used in a healthcare setting. The organization supports the bill’s intent and wants the bill to align with existing frameworks while also considering the needs of smaller providers.

- Bioptimus unveiled M-Optimus, which incorporates AI models into biological research.

- Keywell.ai launched the Health AI Scaffolding Initiative to help nonprofit healthcare organizations get free support to prepare for responsible, scalable AI use.
- Research from Linus Health demonstrated the company’s digital assessments can signal cognitive impairment and flag patients who should undergo further testing.
- Clinical data management vendor MRO appointed Hassan Abdallah as Vice President, Chief Compliance & Privacy Officer.
