AI Scribes Changed Everything. What Comes Next for Clinicians?

Dr. Michael Blackman, Chief Medical Officer at Greenway Health, didn’t hesitate when asked whether AI momentum in clinical care might stall now that AI scribes have become the norm. He pushed back on the idea that this chapter is complete or that attention will drift elsewhere.

Why AI Scribes Are Only the Start

In the clip, Dr. Blackman talks about how fast ambient documentation shifted from curiosity to expectation. “I am firmly of the belief that this will be the way people document going forward,” he said. His comparison to the early days of e-prescribing landed because of how plainly he described the shift.

He also framed the scribe’s success as a signal to keep going. “AI scribes have made a huge difference, but it also opened our eyes. This is a first step. How far can we go beyond this and really make this [caring for patients] so much better and easier?”

What stood out in the moment was his steady confidence that progress won’t slow. The gains in documentation are meaningful, and he sees room for more improvement across clinical workflows without losing sight of what matters most in the exam room.
