Last year, I had stiffness in my right arm. A voice in my head told me to call 911. I hesitated. I thought it was just carpal tunnel, as I had been working on the computer planning a beauty social event on my Facebook page. But then I had jaw pain, shoulder pain and a slight pain in my chest, and I started to worry.
I was adopted, and I’d found my biological father just four years prior to this incident. He warned me of heart disease in his family, and he also advised that if I ever have jaw pain, call 911, as he is a two-time heart attack survivor.
I called my husband and then an ambulance. The paramedic confirmed I was having a heart attack. He gave me an aspirin and oxygen and took me in for emergency surgery.
A voice told me to pray, stay calm and be still. I prayed while they put a stent in. I also called on my deceased adoptive father and other deceased relatives to watch over me.
It turned out that I had two blockages. One at 100% and one at 95%. The second stent was placed three days later, as I developed water in my lungs and was in the cardiac care unit for three whole days.
It was a rocky road. I came home from the hospital with a cardiac life vest for 30 days. After that, I attended cardiac rehab. With medication, and a strict diet, I am able to keep my cholesterol down. My latest echo and chemical stress test showed no permanent heart damage and a normal heart muscle.
I believe that God wanted me to meet my biological father to reveal our family history of heart disease, as well as receive advice on what to do if jaw pain and arm stiffness occur.
All of this pushed me to call 911 that day. The surgeon stated that if I’d waited, I could have died. My deceased relatives were my angels watching over me. I’m grateful to be alive and take nothing for granted!
