President Donald Trump recently announced a 100 percent tariff on some pharmaceutical drugs starting on October 1, unless the manufacturers agree to create a factory in the United States. Following that, he shared that he would be creating a website entitled “TrumpRx,” where consumers could purchase their medications at a discounted rate. He will do this in partnership with Pfizer, the pharmaceutical company he has been working very closely with over the past few weeks. We take you inside Trump’s newest business venture, including when you could use it, below.
What to know about TrumpRx
TrumpRx will be a direct-to-consumer sales program where Americans can purchase medicines at a discounted rate. These savings can go as high as 85%, but the average discount will be 50%.
“The United States is done subsidizing the healthcare of the rest of the world,” the 45th and 47th President of the United States said in a news conference. “By taking this bold step, we’re ending the era of global price gouging at the expense of American families.”
Currently, Pfizer is the only drug company that’s involved with TrumpRx, but in a press conference the President hinted that more are expected to join in the future. He didn’t share which ones those are. Trump also didn’t offer any insight into whether companies will get a three-year grace period on the tariffs like Pfizer did.

“We’ve agreed to a three-year grace period during which time Pfizer products under a Section 232 investigation won’t face tariffs, provided we further invest in manufacturing in the United States,” Albert Bourla, chairman and chief executive officer of Pfizer, said of the deal in a statement.
“This agreement allows us to invest even more boldly in the United States—fueling growth, creating jobs and returning manufacturing home. Our U.S. workforce of 31,000 colleagues, supported by 13 manufacturing and distribution sites and seven major R&D [research and development] facilities, underscores Pfizer’s vital role in building a stronger American economy.”
A look at Pfizer’s current situation with Medicaid
Prior to the announcement of TrumpRx, the President and Pfizer announced they would be selling drugs to Medicaid programs for most-favored-nation, or MFN prices, which is the price patients in other developed nations pay and is lower than the average market price in the U.S.
“The agreement will provide every State Medicaid program in the country access to MFN drug prices on Pfizer products, resulting in many millions of dollars in savings and continuing President Trump’s historic efforts to strengthen the program for the most vulnerable,” reads a press release issued by the White House. “The agreement ensures foreign nations can no longer use price controls to freeride on American innovation by guaranteeing MFN prices on all new innovative medicines Pfizer brings to market.”
“The agreement requires Pfizer to offer medicines at a deep discount off the list price when selling directly to American patients.”
Several of these drugs will be available on the TrumpRx site once it launches, which Pfizer hopes will allow Americans to get the medicines they need at a much more attainable price.

This is about putting all patients first and ensuring America remains the world’s leading engine of medical breakthroughs,” he continued. “We now have the certainty and stability we need on two critical fronts, tariffs and pricing, that have suppressed the industry’s valuations to historic lows.”
As of publication, TrumpRx is expected to launch at some point in 2026, and it’s unclear if the platform will accept insurance. In the past, most direct-to-consumer sales programs have mainly centered around weight-loss drugs and often do accept insurance.
