The Aftermath of the Texas Floods: How You Can Help & Where to Donate

Over the weekend, the state of Texas was rocked by deadly flash floods that took the lives of more than 80 people so far, 28 of them being children and counselors from Camp Mystic, a Christian girls’ summer camp located along the Guadalupe River’s edge. This tragedy continues to unfold as search efforts are ongoing, and people across the country are left wondering how they can help those who have lost their homes, livelihoods and above all, loved ones. If you’re looking to lend a hand, keep reading on how you can aid those in need during this devastating time. 

How can I help the flood victims in Texas?

There are several outlets accepting donations in order to help those affected by the floods, both monetary and in the form of goods like food, hygiene items and more. 

Kerr County Flood Relief Fund

The Kerr County Flood Relief Fund is lending help to Hunt, Ingram, Kerrville, Center Point, and Comfort, and the donations they receive will be used for “rescue, relief, and recovery efforts as well as flood assistance,” states their website. To donate, visit their website here

Through GoFundMe, people looking to help can donate to various verified fundraisers that aid those affected by the floods. Visit their website here and donate to one of the many people in need during this time. 

Kerrville Area Rebuilding and Recovery Fund

Established by the Kerrville Area Chamber of Commerce, the Kerrville Area Rebuilding and Recovery Fund was launched in order to help rebuild and support the local businesses that were damaged and destroyed by the floods. “This initiative aims to provide immediate and long-term support for affected businesses for repairs, façade improvements and new signage, utility bill payments and gap funding,” said a press release. “The fund will direct resources to Chamber members whose businesses have been negatively impacted by the flood.” To donate, visit their website here

World Central Kitchen

Over the weekend, World Central Kitchen, an organization founded by chef José Andres, was on the ground providing meals to the since evacuated Camp La Junta. To donate to this nonprofit, visit their website here

American Red Cross

The American Red Cross has opened up shelters and reunification centers in the wake of these floods, and if you wish to donate to the organization, you can do so on their website here

Austin Pets Alive

Austin Pets Alive has taken in dozens of animals in the wake of the floods, and has also been working to rescue and reunite pets with their families. At this time, they are seeking donations on their website

Make donations in person

The Salvation Army’s Kerrville Kroc Center

As reported by KBTX News, The Salvation Army’s Kerrville Kroc Center is seeking donations such as “non-perishables, hygiene items, cleaning supplies, baby wipes, and more.” These can be donated at 855 Hays St. in Kerrville.

Southern Oaks Church

Southern Oaks Church, located in Kerrville, is no longer accepting physical donations, as they no longer have the space to store more supplies, but they are accepting donations online here. Additionally, they have shared that they are open for people to come and take supplies that they need between now and Wednesday, July 9. They are located at 122 Valley View, Kerrville, TX, 78028.
