All about Taco Bell’s Baja Blast Pie

Though the pie’s greenish-blue hue might be a little unsettling, don’t be deterred. Taco Bell compares this new menu addition to the flavor of a key lime pie. “This limited-edition pie flips the legendary Tropical Lime flavor of Baja Blast into a creamy, key lime–style dessert, featuring a graham crumb crust and topped with whipped cream to create a one-of-a-kind Friendsgiving showstopper,” reads the press release. Though the pie’s initial debut has been met with its fair share of social media scrutiny, others have shared their honest feedback—and it isn’t half bad.

“The taste is sweet, tart and tropical like if key lime pie and Baja Blast had a baby. You get that lime kick, but it’s super creamy with this beachy soda vibe. The crust is buttery with just enough salt to balance all that sweetness, and the whipped cream smooths everything out,” explained one Reddit user. “As for the texture, it’s smooth and custardy, not fluffy. Almost like a key lime pie but a little denser. I thought it’d taste like soda in a crust, but it’s more like a tropical dessert that just happens to taste like Baja Blast.”

Others reiterated the positive sentiment in the comments of Taco Bell’s Instagram post about the pie. “It’s actually really good,” wrote one user. “I was super worried it was gonna be too sweet but it’s so good, probably buying a second one tomorrow.” “Best pie I’ve ever had, please bring back more than once!!,” shared another.

If you’re looking to get your hands on one of these pies, visit your local Taco Bell and try one for $19.99.

Baja Blast Pie dupe recipes are filling social media

If your local Taco Bell is sold out of the Baja Blast Pie, not to fret. Several social media personalities have taken to platforms like Instagram to share their own versions of the pie you can make at home. User @sarahkrafft shared her version of the pie, which was more similar to Sprite pie—inspired by Depression-era “water pies.” Sarah’s pie was made by pouring the following ingredients directly into a premade pie crust.

  • 1 ½ cups of Mountain Dew Baja Blast
  • A sprinkle of sugar
  • ¼ cup of flour
  • 1 stick of butter, cut into thin slices

She proceeded to bake the pie for an hour at 400°F and refrigerated to set the filling—rating it a 6.5 out of 10 in the end. Other users have created versions that more closely remember Taco Bell’s pie. For example, YouTuber @Sophiesophss combined Mountain Dew Baja Blast with ingredients like cream cheese and whipping cream for a more solid, custard-like pie similar to a traditional key lime pie.

Whether you’re making a beeline to Taco Bell or rolling up your sleeves to create your own version at home, this pie proves that the best holiday memories are made when we embrace a little fun and unexpected sweetness. So go ahead—treat yourself to something that makes you smile. You deserve it, and your dessert table will thank you!
