Every October, homes across the country go viral thanks to their amazing Halloween decorations. Even if you don’t go all-out yourself, it’s fun to see what creative homeowners dream up during the spooky season! Reddit is absolutely packed with creativity as users share their artistic, clever and downright scary displays. If you’re curious about what Halloween fans have up their sleeves this year, you’re in luck! We rounded up our favorite Halloween houses from Reddit so you can admire the creativity and maybe even get inspired for your own home.
‘Hocus Pocus’ house
The Sanderson sisters are back! This Reddit user’s Hocus Pocus-inspired display is straight out of Salem, featuring Winifred, Mary and Sarah, plus Binx the black cat. The minimalistic yet impressive decorations showcase the silhouettes of each character in the windows, backlit by blue, green, purple or red lights. Best part? The whole display only cost about $20!
When asked how they pulled it off, the poster replied, “I used LED lights and stuck them twice around [the] frame. Whatever was left over went behind the actual cutout.”
A monster house
This Reddit user’s neighbors better beware! In a post titled “My house will eat your house,” they shared two photos of their transformed residence—a project inspired by another Reddit post years ago. The covered porch is decorated with sharp teeth, and the railing of the second-floor balcony has menacing eyes. At night, the “mouth” of the house glows red!
“The covered porch and balcony make our home perfect for a monster makeover,” wrote the homeowner. “Everything is custom cut from sheet metal, then primed and painted.”
A VW spider sculpture
It’s not uncommon for people to showcase fun Halloween displays they see that were created by others in their town or city. That was the case in this post, which highlighted a unique sculpture that received more than 1,000 upvotes on the site. An old Volkswagen vehicle was transformed into a larger-than-life spider that is both eerie and clever.
The wheel-less vehicle has been painted black and the headlights painted to make them look like eyes. The creator also attached fangs and massive legs to the car (though one Reddit user pointed out the makeshift arachnid is missing a couple of limbs)!
A lurking werewolf
Sometimes, simple decorations can be the spookiest! That’s certainly the case for this particular home, where the Reddit poster is experimenting with shadows. “My shadow werewolf turned out better than I expected!” they wrote.
The result is the shadow of a large werewolf with intimidating claws, standing upright and howling at the moon. Commenters have loved the effect, though one did have a piece of advice to give the original poster, noting, “Really cool effect!! If I can make one suggestion, it’d be cool to see some sharp teeth.”
A Halloween Snoopy display
Charlie Brown fans will love this decoration! One Reddit user showcased an exterior display featuring Snoopy as the World War I Flying Ace from It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. You can see the famous beagle wearing his pilot’s gear and sitting atop his doghouse. Behind him is a giant cut-out of the moon, which is used as a backdrop throughout the night.
“I was inspired by another Redditor to make a display for the WW1 Flying Ace this year,” the post reads. “I decided to make it a little more show accurate. The floodlight turns on and off about every 15 seconds for the shadow effect.”
Dancing skeletons
Skeletons are a Halloween staple, but this home owner turned them into a unique decoration by setting up the group having a celebration. “I had a vision of skellies dancing around a Maypole—love how it turned out!” the poster wrote.
Five skeletons don floral crowns and hold the orange, green and yellow ribbons hanging from the pumpkin-topped pole. So fun!
Horrifying DIY creatures
This Halloween house is practically an art museum! The Reddit user shared that over the years they have created a plethora of custom creatures to “live” on the front lawn during the spooky season.
These have included a giant spider devouring an Amazon delivery worker, a Chupacabra, skeleton firefly fairies, the witch from Hansel and Gretel and many more creative creatures. The zombie mermaids are particularly eerie, and even appear to glow in the dark.
If you’re looking for inspiration for your own house this Halloween, any of these Reddit displays are a great place to start. Happy decorating!
